Not a lot is known about Vancouver-based SKS Games, makers of new survival-horror The Forest. The only title they’ve produced so far is fellow horror title End Night for iOS, but this has received mostly positive reviews from critics so we’re looking forward to seeing what they’ve come up with in their latest.
The game starts off with a bang (literally) as your character is involved in a plane crash, which leaves you stranded in an unknown forest by yourself with no other survivors. From there you with have to chop down trees and collect firewood to make a camp but as night falls you start to hear strange noises. The protagonist then does something you should never do: walk straight into a dark cave where the sounds are emanating from, and it’s here that you have first contact with some odd looking creatures…
The recently-released trailer is pretty terrifying with only a couple of short, sharp glimpses of the pale human-like foes players will be encountering. Click on the link below to watch (but you might want to make sure you’ve got someone with you for support first):
SKS Games’ Mick Solomans talked about the game in an e-mail to Eurogamer, saying that The Forest was inspired by cult classic films as The Descent and Cannibal Holocaust. The development team consists of special effects artists who worked on Tron Legacy and 300, and their bold visual style is evident in their PC debut.
The Forest is due to be released later this year for PC only and, with Oculus Rift support, we’ll be very surprised if it isn’t one of the scariest games in recent memory. Make sure you head on over to Steam Greenlight to give the developer a thumbs up.
